Flat light (stratus cloud), mild (19C) an...21 Aug:<br /><br />Flat light (stratus cloud), mild (19C) and very light S wind - great birding conditions to see the following:<br /><br />Whinchat 1 [Dave saw it flushed twice by dogwalkers from the green plastic mesh fence in Cricket Squares, area 37, E of The Hub between 08:30 and 09:00; flighty, flew long distances each time to tops of plane trees E (above the Broad Walk) and W (above the cricket batting-cages)].<br /><br />Common Redstart 1 first-summer male ](S side of Cricket Pen, area 31 - where the two Pied Flycatchers were two days ago - at 09:40; sedentary but very elusive (it took Dave and I ten minutes to relocate it in the same clump of trees where I first saw it), hiding high in foliage of silver birch saplings].<br />As is often the case, it seems, I spent more time texting my find to others than actually enjoying it(!), but the bird I briefly saw looked like a washed-out adult male, with brown where there should have been blue-grey and sooty-grey where there should have been black.<br /><br />Garden Warbler 1 imm (brambles near newly-replenished water bath and bird feeder at SE edge of Leaf Yard Wood, area 41 at 08:15).<br />Lots of birds - from Willow Warblers to Blackbirds - were taking advantage of the clean water.<br /><br />Common Whitethroat 1 imm (brambles in wildlife garden - behind the Avenue Gardens shelter, area 20 at 11:20).<br /><br />(Willow Warbler 10+ and Chiffchaff 8+ scattered throughout the Park but concentrated within a tit flock that was visiting the bird feeder in the Wetland Pen, area 32 at 09:00.)<br /><br />Swift 1.<br /><br />House Martin 10.birdman_eustonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09232990514600770658noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16314333.post-21329540217564103892012-08-20T20:17:36.272+00:002012-08-20T20:17:36.272+00:00Amazing how areas 39/40/41 have suddenly come to l...Amazing how areas 39/40/41 have suddenly come to life; it's been so quiet this month till now (including yesterday morning, when Francis and I could only find one Chiffchaff and one Willow Warbler over there).birdman_eustonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09232990514600770658noreply@blogger.com
