August and early September in Regent's Park
I apologise for the lack of bird news in recent months. There have been several reason; working on the surveying and removal of Oak Processionary Moth caterpillar nests keeps me away from Regent's Park from May until the end of July. I would normally rely on bird news from DJ Wildlife Officer in the park and pop in and try and see it after work. If in London over the weekend, that is when I would try and spend a couple hours each morning birding. However you do need the birds to be there and showing, this year it has been fairly quiet. There were a several good days during August and early September when Pied Flycatcher, Spotted Flycatcher, Lesser Whitethroat put in an appearance. On one exceptional day the shrubbery on the eastern side of the Ready Money Fountain held 3 Pied and 3 Spotted Flycatcher. Did I see them? no I have unfortunately been suffering from the affects of contracting Lyme disease. It's not something I would want anyone else to catch as it has left me really lethargic with no energy whatsoever. My doctor signed me off for a total of 5 weeks, with today being my first day back at work.
Below are a few images taken on those rare occasions I was able to walk from my car to the Chat Enclosure. I have spent over a couple of weeks in Norfolk missing so good birds because I couldn't motivate myself to drive the 15 minutes to see.
