3rd November

Wood Pigeons (top) and Fieldfare (bottom)

Today was again another good day for visual migration. In the end numbers could not match yesterdays immpressive movements. A full moon at this time of year can cause large numbers of Woodcock to leave scandinavia. We skywatched from 7.00am until 8.30am when the bright sky was making it hard to pick birds out.

Kittiwake: 1 adult flew west at 7.50am.
Ring Ouzel: 1m was chased low to the ground by a Sparrowhawk at 9.00am.
Fieldfare: 635 flew west.
Redwing: Only 60 birds were seen after dawn, birds had been heard during the night.
Skylark: 2 birds flew E.
Starling: 225 birds flew W.
Meadow Pipit: 3 birds flew NE.
Brambling: 2 birds were seen amongst a large flock of Fieldfares.
Wood Pigeon: 550 birds headed SW.
Chiffchaff: 1 was present in area 29, calling loudly. Posted by Picasa
