13th July

Little Owl: All five birds were seen this morning, shame the light was so poor.

Common Tern: six birds were on the lake at 9.30am, the regular pair plus a family of four.

Black-headed Gull: fifty-four birds were on the lake, but only 2 juveniles were with them. They have arrived much earlier than in recent years by almost two weeks, this in turn is earlier than they used to arrive in the 1980’s which used to be at the end of July. It could be that they are breeding much closer to London or they have had a bad breeding season.

Reed Warbler: seven birds were in the Wetland Pen.

Common Whitethroat: the family group is still in the Cricket Pen, area 31. The youngsters are sneaking about in the tall vegetation.

Chiffchaff: at least six birds were in area 31.

These birds were fairly confiding for a change, but in the dark of the canopy of a small tree.

Great video footage Tony! I e-mailed you back a few days ago, not sure if you got it ok. I visited Regents yesterday but arrived around midday and could not locate any Kestresl (checked Primrose Hill) or any Little Owls....maybe it had got too busy by then or maybe i just wasnt looking hard enough. Bit of a shame but from a photography point of view the light wasnt great anyways.

Looking to go back maybe next week if its sunnier and would try and go earlier too. Just made do with the Herons yesterday!
Hi Ben.

The skies did turn very grey yesterday, certainly not good for flight shots. The Herons are always happy to pose for a photo. I didn't notice an email from you, if you look at
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/londonbirders/ you can find my email address there. It starts arduck-----
If you do come and the weather is sunny or bright we could possibly meet up and I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Cheers

Tony
