Royal Park Bird Review
The other day I showed you my highlights from my travels around Great Britain during 2013. What follows are my highlights from The Royal Parks that I have worked in or visited this year plus work loosely connected to the park.
Great crested Grebes are not fairing very well in 2 out of the 3 parks that they are found in. Regent’s Park used to have at least 4 breeding pairs, now that is down to 2 with only one of those pairs managing to rear a single youngster to fledging age.
This male Bar-headed Goose and two females didn’t originate in the park and sometimes leave the park for a month or two if the weather gets to cold.
This Collared Dove was a garden tick for me.
The area around the Bandstand can be one of the best places to get up close to this species, particularly during the spring and summer.
Only the pair in the Wetland Pen had a successful 2013.
This chick was picked up after coming to ground in a crowded area. It was returned to the nest site after dark.
I was able to monitor and assist when needed this pair, resulting eventually in 3 juveniles being accomplished hunters?
Before and after breakfast
It is good to know that Hobby’s are doing well in the parks.
