Day trip to Norfolk
Having not been up to Norfolk recently I thought that it was time I went. There were a couple of scarce visitors in the county a couple that I managed to connect with. I was really hoping to connect with a Little Auk or two but the winds were not strong enough to push them down into the North Sea.
The light wasn’t the greatest for photography but during the course of the day I did manage to take a few.
Highlights.
Red throated Diver: 50 on the sea at Salthouse.
Black Brant: one was on the Eye-field at Cley but distant.
Pale-bellied Brent Goose: two were on the Eye-field.
Velvet Scoter: 3 birds with Common Scoters flew west at Salthouse.
Hen Harrier: a ring-tail was flying alongside the coast road between Wells and Holkham Drive.
Pomarine Skua: one distantly at Titchwell.
Brambling: 25 Chosely Barn area.
Corn Bunting: several along the road to Chosely Barns.
Parrot Crossbill: 10 at Holt Country Park, also possibly at least 2 at Lynford Arboretum. I didn’t have time to be absolutely positive due to a Kestrel spooking them.
Two-barred Crossbill: a male showed well but only for a few seconds.
Hawfinch: 10 in Lynford Arboretum.
The downside to a day trip to Norfolk at this time of year is the shorter day light hours. This means that if you want to see as much as you can you cannot stay to long in one location.
Parrot Crossbills, the small flock once located spent all the time in the upper branches of a pine tree before then flying to the uppper branches of another.
This aviary photo is the type of photo I would have like to have taken. Only joking, this photo was taken by a friend of mine Martyn Whalley and is a stunning image.
Below: geese and plovers at Cley
Below are waders on the beach at Titchwell
A Little Egret flies past without anyone noticing.
