13th September

In Regent’s Park today I spent a couple of hours around what is now “The Chat Enclosure” area 39. This area was developed in early 2011 after the lease on the Tennis and Golf Practice area that occupied this area was not renewed. It has taken a several years but we have decided that as the star birds in this area are members of the chat family, the enclosure should be named after them. Below a couple of photos show how quickly the site has matured.

This area was very productive this morning with:

Common Redstart, Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Common Whitethroats, 15+ Blackcaps, 2 Willow Warblers, 10+ Chiffchaffs, Spotted Flycatcher and some passage Swallows overhead.

This afternoon in area 41, another Redstart showed occasionally in the Sallows behind the brambles. Also here were a few Chiffchaffs, 3 Common Whitethroats and 12 Blackcaps.

In the Longbridge Sanctuary this afternoon a pair of Wigeon flew out on to the main lake. They may have been present yesterday also.
