Pied Flyctacher

Wryneck

Little Stint

Dotterel

I am back after a very warm week, on the Lands End Penninsular. We managed to see 115 species without trying to hard. Missing out on Melodous Warbler and Least Sandpiper. The winds were mainly southerly, know good for sea watching, until it veered slightly towards the end of the week.
The Weeks Bird Highlights : Sooty Shearwater, 25 Mediterranean Shearwater, American Wigeon, Goshawk, Wilsons Phalarope, Dotterel,12 Purple Sandpipers, Long-tailed Skua, 30 Arctic Skuas, 3 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Turtle Doves, 2 Wrynecks and Red-breasted Flycatcher. In Sennen Cove over 50 Common Dolphins put on a show and the following day my first Basking Shark fed there.
I managed to get over to the Isles of Scilly on a to hot to walk Tuesday. My party flew from St Just Airport at 8.40am returning at 5.15pm. Allowing plenty of time to find some birds, island highlights were Hoopoe, Wryneck, Yellow-browed Warbler and Firecrest.

While away the park has been quiet, highlights being the Kingfisher back in the Wetland, area 25 on 25th & 26th, 1 Hobby flew S on 26th, 2 Jackdaws 30th & one 1st Oct. There has been small movements of Swallows, House Martins and Meadow Pipits.

Tony,
Seems like you had a successful week.
It was quiet here last week. I saw the kingfisher in Area 25 on Wed (27 Sep). Today there were 5 pied wagtails on the football pitches at lunchtime. They all had pale throats, which were more cream coloured than white. Perhaps juveniles?
Cheers,
Debbie
