23rd May

Long-tailed Tit(adult).
Long-tailed Tit(juvenile).

Sedge Warbler: 1 singing from bushes by the toilets at 11.50am, area 2.This species never seems to show well in the park, always singing from cover.

There seem to be recently fledged Blue, Great and Long-tailed Tits all over the park. Brood sizes seem small, indicating a lack of food.

Thursday: all day I have heard swifts from our office across the Outer Circle. Heard the whitethroat in Area 24 at lunchtime. On Monday I saw some fledgling blue tits being fed by a parent in a lamppost outside the LBS!
Lamp posts are a popular place for Blue Tits. The only problem is that Jays are able to reach the young more easily. We are thinking of sighting swift boxes on the tower of my building and using a tape lure next spring.
