15th July

Nuthatch on feeder in area 29.

Little Owl juvenile looking for food.
Little Grebe chick being fed and then begging for food.

Female and chick are quiet content after breakfast.

Nuthatch: 1 in area 29, the first record for 4 years. This is a rare visitor to the park, the summer months are the best time of year to see this species.
Little Owl: The young are becoming more confident.
Chiffchaff: 1 scruffy individual was in silver birch trees in area 27.
Goldfinch: Juveniles are still visiting the garden by St Marks Bridge, area 34.
Common Tern: 3 still present over the lake.

Aesculapian Snake: possibly 1 of this species was seen by Macclesfield Bridge, area 34 this morning.

Was the mystery bird a greenfinch?

Last Friday I saw these butterflies: gatekeeper, speckled wood, meadow brown, holly blue, small white, green veined white. Nothing to get the pulse racing I admit, but nice to see.

Seems to be quiet a few Gatekeepers around. They show so much better when the wind drops.
