23rd December

The wind veered around to the north-east, producing a biting and an end to the thaw.

Woodcock: a bird was flushed from the grass by the American Ambassadors residence area 1 at 6.10am. It dropped back down into leaf litter but was unsettled and flew a bit further away.

Water Rail: the two in area 2 were showing a bit more tolerance to day. I forgot to mention that another bird was seen flying into cover in the Wetland Pen, area 32 yesterday.

Red crested Pochard: at least sixty were present on the water in area 2.
