14th March

Common Buzzard: two birds were seen by me one west at 11.29 am was very shabby and another north at 12.50pm. I am sure that I missed others by the way that the gulls and crows kept on taking to the air.

Tawny Owl: the owlet managed to get through yesterday without being to bothered by crows, though Magpies did find it but didn’t do any harm. During the evening one of the adults sat a few feet away, so hopefully they also fed it at some stage. One of the adults was seen in the Leaf Yard Wood, unfortunately there was an eaten egg not to far away. We hope that not all the eggs were taken, though we do not know where the nest is.

Grey Heron: Young were heard from a second nest today, this time on the Bandstand Island, area 7.

Common Pheasant: the cock bird is still present in area 22.

Redwing: twelve birds, some of which were singing flew from trees on Marylebone Green this morning.

Jackdaw: ten birds in three groups flew north prior to 9.00am.

Brambling: one was calling from a tree by the Inner Circle, area 18. It then flew off north.

House Sparrow: a female was calling from bushes in area 22. This is the first sparrow sighting in this area for over 6 years.
