8th March

As the weather was looking good for the second day in a row, I thought I would take advantage of it. I headed out to Christmas Common, parking in the car park just off the road to Watlington. From here I walked through a piece of mixed woodland and out on to the edge of the Chiltern escarpment. I was immediately met by some of my favourite birds Red Kites. I walked out as far as the plateaux allowed without having to descend and found a spot to sit and wait. It wasn’t to long before there were Kites close by wheeling and thermaling on a really beautiful morning. The only people that I saw in the 1.5 hours that I was there were two dog walkers and a rambler. It was so peaceful. just the birds and me.

Here are a few shots of this grace bird.

Great photos! You were out in my neck of the woods - we are really lucky to have so many of these wonderful birds around us these days.
If this is your neck of the woods, then you are extremely lucky. It is fantastic countryside with some beautiful birds

Lucky indeed, but I still miss the park. I worked in Sussex Place for nearly 13 years and miss my lunchtime walks. Have you spotted any Red Kites over the park?
They are an annual visitor with this time of year being one of the best times to see them as they possibly look to expand eastwards and drift over London. There have been 19 records in the last 6 years.
