10th August

This Little Grebe chick was picked up by a member of public and handed in to one of the eateries. It had been pecked by something possibly a Coot, but wasn’t damaged at all. Having seen a Little Grebe with a chick this morning, that was being pestered by a Coot I returned to that area and waited until an adult appeared. The chick was calling so I put it in amongst the vegetation at the edge of the lake behind the fence that protects a recently extended reed bed. The parent eventually dived under the fence and bonded with the chick again.

Also today.

Grey Wagtail: one by the cascade in area 1.

Common Whitethroat: 9 birds present, five in area 32 and four on the site of the Old Golf and Tennis School, area 39.

Willow Warbler: 2 in area 34.

Chiffchaff: 6 in areas 31 to 34.
