19th February

Smew: 1st winter drake still present in area 34, with the collection birds.

Common Teal: 10 on the main lake.

European Wigeon: a pair on the main lake.

Redwing: 40 flew over my house at 7.30am.

Jackdaw: a flock of 39 flew NE over the park.

Siskin: 7 birds were feeding on the ground in area 33 before flying off to the Cricket Pen, area 31.

As the weather was fine I thought that a visit to Hampstead Heath, in particular the conservation pond was warranted. The reason being a Bittern that has been present since last Tuesday. Although it was on show quite often it tended to walk along just inside the reed fringe and made taking photos a little difficult.

Just 'come across' your blog via Marc Heaths link in his, thanks Marc.

I will be taking a closer look at 'Regents Park Birds', meanwhile, I've taken and copied your 2010 Annual Report cover and intend to post on Birds2blog with a link to the blog. I hope you have no objections to this, if you have I'll remove it the instant I find out.

I'll be in touch again soon.
Lesser spotted!!! What a spot, egg and bacon roll too! Heaven.
Spent the afternoon on heath but no joy with the bittern, but the hot chocolate was nice.
Nice photos of buzzard looks quite white and clean, guess the crows don't leave it alone.
Hi Pete

I certainly do not have any problem with you posting my blog on where ever you think there might be an audience. My aim has always been to flag up the park, and hopefully I can do the same in Bushy and Richmond Parks. But really Regent's has a great record, but few birders visit it regularly. So thanks again and I am working on the 2011 Bird Report
I am sorry you didn't see the Bittern. If you go there at around 5.15pm you should see it going to roost
