18th March

Regent’s Park

Grey Heron: 4 nest at least have young in.

Little Grebe: 4 pairs present on the main lake, plus one pair in area 34.

Meadow Pipit: 4 flew through with one down in area 37 briefly.

Northern Wheatear: one landed in a tree by the gorse bushes in area 34. I doubt it stayed very long.

Chiffchaff: at least 7 birds singing around the park.

19 Mar: Weather at daybreak like yesterday but colder with ground frost, so birdsong rather muted. Chiffchaffs in areas 20, 30, 33 (feeding at ground level) and 40; Blackcap in area 30. A straight-trunked yew tree near summit of hill W of pond in Queen Mary's Garden has been favoured by Goldcrests for the past week if not longer: a pair (male singing) were feeding in it today.
