It was a shame that light was just not right, but they will do until another opportunity comes along.

A great sequence Tony!
Cheers Stuart.
I hope I get lucky tomorrow.

Great shots, Tony. Any chance you could give away the location of this favoured perch? I wouldn't mind having a look in at one point this week.

Cheers, Bill
I am sorry Bill the area has no public access, I happened to be checking water levels when I stumbled across the birds

Regent's Park yesterday lunchtime at the Wetlands Pen and the next door area: 3 male Blackap, 2 Chiffchaff, a pair of Coal Tits - always seen these at the northern feeding station before now.

28 Mar: Clear, calm and slightly colder overnight than the previous few nights, allowing a touch of ground frost to develop and muting the dawn chorus - the Chiffchaff in the Cricket Pen (area 31) was just clearing his throat when I arrived five minutes before dawn at 06.40. However, a male Blackcap was singing loudly from the top of a nearby alder tree - the first one I've recorded in area 31 since the pair I saw over a month ago on 25 February. (Ironically, given the six I recorded yesterday, this was the only Blackcap I encountered all morning.)

Canada Goose incubating eggs near N shoreline of Heron Island (area 8).

Sheldrake chasing another male and a pair of Gadwalls away from a favoured feeding spot, area 36. There are currently two pairs of Shelducks between Heron Island and Long Bridge.

No sign of yesterday's drake Pintail, nor the drake redhead Smew.

A pair of Collared Doves is nesting two branches away from the Kestrels' favourite mating perch (!) in the Wetland Pen (area 32).

Goldcrests & Coal Tits, a pair each, feeding in the same 'flowering' ornamental cedar tree in the Mediterranean border (area 18) at 08.30, making the pollen fly.

Fewer Chiffchaffs singing than yesterday, in areas 1, 19 and 31.

Horse-chestnut trees starting to leaf out in area 12.

You're right about the light - the first of the mating shots has a really incredible composition to it, with different lighting conditions it would be an absolutely top pic.

Cheers,

Piers
