20th April

Regent’s Park

A really slow week on the bird front here and in Bushy Park.

Grey Wagtail: one on the canal tow path.

Willow Warbler: one in area 33.

Chiffchaff: six males possibly holding territories.

Hopefully tomorrow weather permitting I will find something worthwhile.

Bushy Park

Common Buzzard: the bird is still present in the Brewhouse Field area.

Sparrowhawk: there was a male soaring over the Woodland Gardens.

Meadow Pipit: a bird was in the Brewhouse Fields.

Barn Swallow: 5 birds flew through the western side of the park and 2 were present over the stockyard.

Sand Martin: one was hanging around the pools in the Brewhouse Fields.

Kingfisher: one was on the Longford River by Dukes Head Passage.

Willow Warbler: two birds singing.

Chiffchaff: 6 birds singing.

Blackcap: 11 birds singing.

21 Apr: Clear at dawn, clouding over by 09.00 with light W breeze. Still soggy after more showers yesterday.

Reed Bunting 1m: area 32 at 07.28, singing an abbreviated "dzeerp-chitit" subsong in a shrub, then in reeds and finally near the top of a large willow tree before flying off over the treetops down the lake. It has a more extensive black bib on the upper chest than any male I've seen before.

Pied Wagtail 2: female in area 2 at 07.10, male in area 9 at 08.06.

Willow Warbler 1: area 2.

The male Chiffchaff in the Cricket Pen, area 31 (who I will call 'Geoff' after Geoffrey Boycott) appears to have found a mate, as does 'John' in area 14. Much more calling ("hooeet") than singing is coming from these two locations now.
