Hi Tony,

That hornet in Richmond Park possibly a queen looking for a suitable over-wintering tree. Is that particularly unusual or noteworthy in a big mature park like Richmond?

17 Oct:
2 Yellow Wagtail (calling 'pheez' while landing on NE slope of Barrow Hill Reservoir, area 48 at 10:00), 1 Pied Wagtail, 6 Redwing, 2 Chiffchaff.
Thanks to Rose for alerting me to the possibility of Yellow Wagtail in area 48. Looks like they're a regular if scarce stopover migrant here; I had a well-lit, overhead view of them coming and going today and now realise that I've probably seen and heard them at least twice before this migration season, flying out of the Reservoir.
Piers hornets are quite common inthe outer parks
