1 Mar:
2 Shelduck, 12 Gadwall, 14 Shoveler, 1 Little Grebe area 35, 2 Great Crested Grebe (pair roosting again off NW shore of Heron Island a.8), 2 Sparrowhawk, 1 Water Rail a.2, 1 Lapwing (circling over lake gaining height till lost from view 08:20), 11 Common Gull, 1 Redwing a.38, 12 Siskin in Cricket Pen a.34.
I hope the Siskins hang around for a while, there such attractive little birds.

Yes, the lime-greens of the brighter male Eurasian Siskins looks positively gaudy to this North American's eyes compared to the drab-browns of the Pine Siskins I'm used to. This morning's flock was in the elm thicket, sheltering from a female Sparrowhawk perched next to the Wetland Pen feeder - no sign of last year's nesting Kestrels yet. As for the gulls, I'm pinning my hopes on the southeasterlies forecast for early next week!
