24th January

Kingfisher: A female was present in area 1 this afternoon.
Ring-necked Parakeet: 2 were feeding on the peanut feeder in area 29.
Black-headed Gull: Numbers have increased to around 300 birds. From now on it is worth checking them for our almost annual Mediterranean Gull, before they depart by mid March.

2 Siskin in copse at SE end of Area 24 - watched at distances as close as 5 feet for some time.
2 G S Woodpecker Areas 24+25.
1 Long Tailed Tit at feeder Area 29 - no finches seen there at all for well over 30 minutes.
Tried the Mediterranean Gull Game with no joy!
Keep trying a good gull could turn up at anytime, but normally it is with the early morning gulls. The ones that have just left their roost.

BTW, this was Sunday 27..!

And also Tony, what are your plans for the wetland area? I assume more reedebeds..?
The extension to the wetland is to give it more depth, allowing the fish to survive and maybe less algae to grow. Most of the original wetland will be left as it is though the area in front of the revamped Kingfisher bank is to be deepened also. These areas are being lined with puddled clay. I will plant oxygenating weed in these deep areas. Hopefully the Kingfishers will find this more to their liking. If I am able to find more funding from outside sources then I would like to build one or two more banks. My long term plan would be to get a big sponsor to fund the complete redesign of the island opposite the Holme(area 5). It is in such a bad state and could be a flagship development for the park.
