31st March

Wheatear: 4 birds on the western half of area 28.
Linnet: 1 bird flew west at 8.30am.
Blackcap: 1 male in Leaf Yard Wood , area 29.
Collared Dove: 2 birds flew south at 8.20am.
Chiffchaff: 3 birds singing.
Reed Bunting: 1 male at feeding station area 24

30th March

Reed Bunting: A male at the feeding station area 24.
Great Black-backed Gull: One flew high eastwards at 8.40am. Not common away from the Thames.
Chiffchaff: Four birds singing 1 in area 1, 2 in area 24 and 1 in area 29.
Siskin: One flew over
Great Crested Grebe: 8 birds on the lake several pairs fighting, then acting out their courtship displays.
Little Grebe: 3 pairs on the lake, the shrill calls of the males can be heard.

Wheatear: 4 birds present on the open spaces. 3 males one of which was partially leucistic, area 28. Chiffchaff: 2 birds present in the leaf yard wood, area 29. Meadow Pipit: 1 bird flew over. Pied Wagtail: 2 birds flew over. Redwing: 15 birds feeding in the leaf yard wood, area 29. Posted by Picasa

27th March

Wheatear: one present on the open spaces, area 28 . Lapwing: one flew SW at 7.40 am. Collared Dove: one flew NW at 8.25am. Blackcap: a male was singing behind St Johns Lodge, area 15. Reed Bunting: a male was calling from sallows by Hanover Bridge, area 1. Brambling female still at feeding station in area 24, Great Crested Grebe: 8 birds on the lake. Black-headed and Common Gull: only one or two are left after a clear out over the weekend. Posted by Picasa

Common Snipe: One flushed from wetland 10.40am, returned 30 mins later, area 25.
Siskin: Two birds flew north at 8.00am.
Redwing: 10 birds feeding on grass verge, area 32.
Goldfinch: 5 birds on feeder in garden by St Marks Bridge, area 34.

Tawny Owl: One pair roosting together in area 29. Hopefully this could indicate that their eggs have hatched.

Jackdaw: 3 birds flew NW at 1.45pm.
Heron: 4 nest now have young, on islands 5 & 6.
Stock Dove: From the canal tow path 14 birds can be seen feeding in a garden by St Marks Bridge, area 34.

Yellow Legged Gull: 2nd winter present on the
lake throughout the day.

Sparrowhawk: 2 pairs displaying, over areas

10th March

Goosander: The female again present in area 26.
Common Teal: 2 drakes and a female by island 5.
Redwing: 12 birds roosted on island in area 26.
Sparrowhawk: birds calling and displaying over Hanover Bridge, area 1.

9th March

Goosander: The female retuned this afternoon after 4 days away.
Jackdaw: 6 birds flew NE in 2 groups.
Redwing: 1 bird flew over.
Large numbers of waterfowl and B H Gulls have begun to move off.

8th March

Herring Gull: 215 birds gathered at 6.10 am on the open spaces. Large numbers tend togather at this time of year,
around first light before dispersing.

Redwing: 2 birds on southside of the canal, area 32.
Goldfinch: 3 feeding on teasels in the wetland pen, area 25.
Stock Dove: 28 feeding in areas 24 & 25.
Green Woodpecker: Birds showing well on the ground in areas 1, 7 and 25.

Goosander: The female is still present in area 26.
Siskin: 3 birds flew NE at 10.15am.
Stock Dove: 26 birds feeding in areas 24 & 25.
Green Woodpecker: A pair feeding in the goose pen, area 25.

3rd March

Goosander : The wild bird can be seen feeding in the bottom left hand corner at dawn.
Redwing: 2 birds feeding by the canal, area 32.
