30th April

Honey Buzzard: 1 drifted slowly SW at 10.30am.
Common Buzzard: 1 drfted NW at 11.55am.
Peregrine Falcon: 2 very distant birds at 11.00am.
Wheatear: 1 perching in trees area 26.
Sedge Warbler: 1 singing on island, area 6.
Reed Warbler: 1 in area 2.
Common Whitethroat: 1 also in area 2.
Chiffchaff: 3 males still present.
Swallow: 10 bird over.
Swift: 6 birds over.
House Martin: 4 birds, 2 abovethe lake and 2 through.
Commic Tern: 3 birds flew E well to the south of the park.
Pelican: 1 seen soaring above St James's.

28th April

Reed Warbler: 1 bird still present.
Sedge Warbler: 1 bird also still in area 2.
Lesser Redpoll: 2 birds flew over.
Great Black-backed Gull: 2 high flying single birds, 7.55am & 12.40pm.

27th April

Swift: 7 birds over, the first records of the year.
Sand Martin: 1 N over Primrose Hill.
House Martin: 4 birds two over the breeding site on Park Road.
Swallow: 7 Swallows through in 1's & 2's.
Common Whitethroat: 1 singing and showing well in area 16.
Reed Warbler: 1 still in area 2.
Willow Warbler: 5 birds singing mainly close to the lake.
Chiffchaff: 3 birds appear to be holding territories.
Linnet: 2 birds over.
Lesser Redpoll: 2 birds over.
Sparrowhawk: 1 migrant high NW at 12.30pm.
Peregrine Falcon: 1 migrant high NW at 12.50pm.
Great Black-backed Gull: 2 birds E at 7.50am.
Common Tern: 2 bird NE at 11.40am.
Little Grebe: 11 birds on the lake, a park record.

Common Buzzard: 1 soaring heading NW at 1.05pm.
Reed Warbler: 1 singing in reed beds in area 2.
Sedge Warbler: 1 singing in reed beds in area 2.
Chiffchaff: 3 singing birds in areas 1, 29 & 31.
Swallow: 6 birds passed through.
Linnet: 2 birds over.
Ring-necked Parakeet: 1 flew N at 7.10am.

24th April

Water Pipit: 1 flew in calling, landed briefly at 6.40am. Flushed by a dog it headed off east.
Arctic Tern: 1 flew east at 6.50am.
Common Tern: 1 was on posts on the lake at 7.05am.
Reed Warbler: 1 present in reed bed area 1.
Sedge Warbler: 1 also present in reed bed area 1.
Reed Bunting: 1 pair present in area 2.
Garden Warbler: 1 singing in area 31.
Willow Warbler: 4 birds singing.
Chiffchaff: 2 birds singing.

22nd April pm

Hobby: 1 circled high drifting slowly N at 4.30 pm.
Common Whitethroat: 1 in hedgerow, area 29.
Reed Warbler: 1 in hedgerow, area 29.

22nd April

Wheatear: 6 birds 3 at leastof the greenland race in area 28. Often perching in the tops of the trees. Yellow Wagtail: 1 bird over. Swallow: 12 birds over. House Martin: 4 birds over. Meadow Pipit: 4 birds over 1 landed briefly. Collared Dove: 1 bird over. Blackcap: 12 birds singing. Willow Warbler: at least 14 birds present. Chiffchaff: 2 birds singing in areas 1 & 29.

Wheatear: 1 over at 7.50am.
Reed Bunting: 1 male in reed bed by Hanover Bridge, area 2.
Yellow Wagtail: 1 over at 8.20am north east.
Rook: 2 singles north at 10.50am and 10.55am.
Blackcap: 20+ birds in most areas with suitable cover.
Willow Warbler: 20+ widely distributed.
Chiffchaff: 2 males in areas 1 and 29
House Martin: 3 over the lake before heading north at 8.30am.
Swallow: 1 north at 11.00am.

Sedge Warbler: 1 still present by Hanover Bridge in reeds, area 2.

Chiffchaff: 3 birds still possibly holding territories.
Blackcap: 10 males and 6 females.

Chiffchaff: Birds in areas 1, 26, 29 and 31.
Blackcap: Wildely distributed, but easily seen in area 29.
Swallow: 6 over.
House Martin: 4 over.

Swallow: 3 birds through. House Martin: 1 bird over the Zoo. Tree Pipit: 1 flew N at 8.20am. Linnet: 1 flew N. Siskin: 1 flew N. Reed Bunting: 1m at the feeding station, area 24. Tawny Owl: 2 owlets in trees in area 29.
Common Redstart: 1 male in area 29, calling and showing well at 2.00pm.
Swallow: singles passing through.
House Martin: 2 singles over the lake.
Wheatear: 1 high flying bird and another seen flying away from area 28.
Blackcap: 10 males widely scattered.
Willow Warbler: 4 birds singing.

Alpine Swift: The Hampstead Heath bird is sometimes visible from Primrose Hill.
Swallow: 1 flew over Primrose Hill.
Sparrowhawk: 3 possible migrants flew high eastwards.
Tawny Owl: 2 juvs still in Bay Tree in Leaf Yard Wood, area 29.
To those interested I am leading an LNHS birdwalk on Sat 15th at 8.30am, just inside the park by Clarence Gate. If we don't manage to see good numbers of migrants the young Tawny Owls should be on show.

Cuckoo: 1 was calling from the grounds of The Holme, area 7.
Tree Pipit: 1 was singing from the workers yard in Queen Mary's, area 12 at 7.30am.
Willow warbler: At least 6 birds singing around the park.
Chiffchaff: 7 birds singing around the park.
Siskin: 2 birds with the greenfinch flock area 24 (sometimes on large feeder).
Reed Bunting: The male again at the feeding station, area 24.

7th April

Great Black-backed Gull: 1 was perched on a post on the main lake.This species is rarely seen on the ground in the park.

Sand Martin: 2 birds flew NE at 12.40pm.
Willow Warbler: 1 was singing in shrubbery along side the bandstand, area 8.
Chiffchaff: 4 birds sing in several areas, mainly 1 & 29.
Reed Bunting: The male was present in bushes behind the reed bed area 26.
Sparrowhawk: 1 pair was displaying above the bandstand, area 7 .

Chiffchaff: 4 birds singing, areas 1,15 & 29. Blackcap: 4 birds singing in areas 12,14 & 29. Redpoll: 1 perched in tree by canal, area 32. Yellow Wagtail: 1 flew NW at 11.20am. Siskin: 2 birds flew NW at 11.25 am. Meadow Pipit: 2 birds flew NW. Reed Bunting: 1 bird in reed bed area 2. Common Buzzard: one bird drifted SE at 1.00pm. Collared Dove: 2 flew into an evergreens by Chester Road.
Jackdaw: 1 was around the lake between 11.30 & 12.00.
Siskin: 1 flew NW at 11.30am.
Blackcap: 1 singing is area 29.
Chiffchaff: 1 singing in area 29.

Eygptian Goose: 3 birds were on the lake.
White-fronted Goose: an escaped bird was on the island by the banstand.
Bar-headed Goose : 6 birs circled at a high altitude.
