31st August





A lot of migrants appeared to have moved on overnight.
Kingfisher: 2 present 1 in area 1 view north from blue bridges, the other moves between the wetland area 25 and the end of the lake where it fishes from the duck nest boxes.
Common Teal: the first of the autumn was at the far end of the lake in area 1. Unless it flies you cant tell it apart from the collection Teal.
Yellow Wagtail: 1 flew over at 8.30am.
Willow Warbler: 2 in area 29.
Blackcap: 1 in area 29.

30th August

Kingfisher: 2 males present in area 1 again.
Wood Warbler: 2 birds reported in the tall Lime trees in area 29 at around 6.30am.
Spotted Flycatcher: 1 bird in area 1 and 2 in area 29.
Willow Warbler: 10 birds normally with the tit flocks.
Blackcap: 4 birds in area 29.
Garden Warbler: A probable bird in area 2 in the tall Willows.
Swallow: 4 birds flew over.
House Martin. 60 birds early morning above the lake.

29th August




Kingfisher: 1 at the far end of the lake, area 1. View from either blue bridge looking towards American Ambassadors residence. Possibly present for over a week.
Spotted Flycatcher: 4 present in area 4 this morning.
Lesser Whitethroat: 2 in area 24 and 1 in area 29.
Common Whitethroat: 3 birds in area 29.
Willow Warbler: 14 birds in area 29.
Chiffchaff: 6 birds in area 29.
Blackcap: 8 birds present mainly in area 29.
House Martin: 70 over the lake at 7.00am.
Grey Wagtail: 1 by waterfowl rearing pond, area 1.

28th August





Whinchat: 11.00am on fence that seperates the wetland from the goose grazing paddock, area 25. Still present at 3.30pm.
Common Redstart: 1 in area 29, 50 yards behinddrinking pool. Visible from outside the fenced area.
Spotted Flycatcher: 2 birds in area 29.
Reed Warbler: 1 in brambles area 24 and another in brambles area 29.
Common Whitethroat: 1 in area 24 and 2 in area 29.
Blackcap: 5 in area 29.
WillowWarbler: 8, in areas 25 and 29.

27th August



Spotted Flycatcher: 1 bird in area 25 and 2 birds in area 29.
Common Redstart: 1 in area 29,but elusive.
Common Whitethroat: 2 birds in area 29.
Blackcap: 4 birds in area 29.
Willow Warbler: 25 birds scattered around the park, mainly in roving Long-tailed Tit parties.
Chiffchaff: 10 birds with the above 2 species.
Swallow: 40 birds flew SW in small groups.
Sand Martin: 5 birds over the lake.
House Martin: 50 birds seen moving slowly through.

26th August

Spotted Flycatcher: 3 birds in trees near the drinking pool, area 29.
Lesser Whitethroat: 1 in above area.
Common Whitethroat: 2 in above area.
Garden Warbler: 1 in above area.
Blackcap: 5 in area 29 and 3 in area 24.
Willow Warbler: 6 birds mainly in area 24 & 25.
Chiffchaff: 3 in area 24.
Yellow legged Gull: adult on the lake at 11.55am.

I have been away for some warmth, so these last 7 days are the best of what was quite a productive time. I was having to make do with these.

24th August

Lesser Whitethroat. 2 birds in area 24.
Sedge Warbler: 1 in area 2.

23rd August


Northern Wheatear: 1 on the open spaces, area 28.
Yellow Wagtail: 1 flew SW.
Common Whitethroat: 2 birds in cricket pen, area 24.
Lesser Whitethroat: 1 in area 24.
Swift: 1 bird over the lake.
House Martin: 150 birds flew through.

22nd August

Lesser Whitethroat: 2 in area 29.
Common Whitethroat: 2 in area 29.
Spotted Flycatcher: 2 in area 29.
Yellow Wagtail: 2 birds flew SW.
Willow Warbler: 20+ around the park.
Chiffchaff: 20+ the same as above species.

Hummingbird Hawkmoth. 1 in area 14.

21st August

Kinfisher: 1 in the Wetland Pen, area 25. Seen at 8.30am and remained here atempting to fish, before being chased off by crows. It was sighted later in the day in area 1.

20th August

Northern Wheatear: 1 0n the new pavilion, area 28.
Tree Pipit: 1 flew SW.
Garden Warbler: 1 in brambles in area 29.

16th August


Wood Warbler: 1 present in the trees around the drinking hole, area 29.
Spotted Flycatcher: 1 also present in the same area.
Garden Warbler: 2 in area 24 and 1 in 29.
Willow Warbler: 16 birds around the lake, mainly in areas 7 and the NE arm.
Chiffchaff: similar numbers, in the same locations as the above species.
Sand Martin: 5 birds passed through
at 7.15am.

Whinchat: 1 flushed by dog walker at 6.45am.
Garden Warbler: 6 birds in area 24.
Willow Warbler; 16 mainly in area 24, also area 16.
Chiffchaff: 10 in the same area as above.
Blackcap: 8 birds in area 24.
Swift: 3 sinlges over the park.
Swallow: 6 birds flew through at 11.45am.
Sand Martin: 1 bird over the lake.

Garden Warbler: 4 birds in brambles and group of Elm suckers area 24.
Chiffchaff: 10 birds around the park, area 24 holding the most.
Willow Warbler: 6 birds mainly in the NE arm of the lake.
Blackcap: 6 birds feeding in areas that contain blackberries.
Swallow: 2 birds over the lake at 1.00pm.
Swift: 14 birds over the park prior to 9.00am.

Chiffchaff: 12 birds in the NE arm of the lake, mainly area 24.
Willow Warbler: 6 birds in same area as above.
Blackcap: 10 birds in areas 7, 24 and 29.

Spotted Flycatcher: 1 present in the goose pen, area 25.
Garden Warbler: 1 feeding in brambles in area 29.
Willow Warbler: 6 birds in areas 24 and 25.
Chiffchaff: 8 birds in areas 24 and 25.
Blackcap: 6 birds in areas 24 and29.
Green Woodpecker: A 2nd juv in area 24 at the same time as one in area 29. This is likely to mean that a 2nd pair bred.

Blackcap: 12 birds in areas 6, 24,25 and 29.
Reed Warbler: 4 recently fledged young in elders in area 2.
Swift: 1 over the lake at 7.30am.

Blackcap: 4 in area 24, 3 in area 29.
Willow Warbler: 4 in area 24, 2 in area 29.
Reed Bunting: 2 juvenlies in area 24.
Sparrowhawk: The juvenlies still present behind the Nature Study Centre, area 1

8th August






Garden Warbler: 4 birds, 2 in area 24 and 2 in area 29 all feeding on blackberries.
Greater Whitethroat: 2 snlgles in areas 24 and 29.
Blackcap:12 birds in three main areas, 3 feeding along fence line in area 7, 4 in area 24 and 5 in area 29.
Willow Warbler: 4 birds seen 3 in area 24 and 1 in area 29.
Chiffchaff: 3 birds in trees on the west side of the rose wheel in area 12. This area is very good first thing in the morning as it gets the first rays of sun.
Grey Wagtail: 1 juv along edge of main lake.
Green Woodpecker: the juv again by the drinking pool in area 29.
Little Grebe: 1 adult and 1 chick are showing really well by Clarence Bridge and the immeadiate area.

7th August

Garden Warbler: 2 birds feeding in elders and brambles, just past the drinking pool in area 29.
Blackcap: 3 birds also in same location.
Willow Warbler: 1 bird in sallows in area 29.
Chiffchaff: 1 bird with the tit flock along the fence line in area 7.
Sparrowhawk: 3 juvs in area 1, can be located by their mewing.

Common Buzzard: 1 soared over The Zoo from 11.10am untl 11.20am, before heading north.
Willow Warbler: 1 in are 29, in willows.

Willow Warbler: 1 singing in area 25.
Saand Martin: 1 over the lake with House Martins at 8.00am.
Peregrine Faalcon: 2 juvs over the open spaces at 1.25pm, calling and play fighting.

2nd August



Willow Warbler: 2 singles in silver birch trees in areas 24 & 25.
Green Woodpecker: 1 juv again in area 29.
Sparrowhawk: A pair with young behind Nature Study Centre area 1. This pair must have failed with their first attempt.

1st August


Willow Warbler: The first of the autumn was in the Longbridge sanctuary, area 25 & 26.
Chiffchaff: 1 was close to Longbridge area 26, a probable migrant.
Garden Warbler: 1 was feeding on blackberries in area 29.
Yellow-legged Gull: A first winter was on a post on the lake at 6.30am and an adult was present at 10.30am.
Ring-necked Parakeet: 1 flew SW at 7.40am.
Green Woodpecker: The first juvenile of the year was in the Leaf Yard, area 29. It was thought they hadn't bred.
